Beat Film Festival is the largest international documentary film festival in Russia. Its main edition takes place in Moscow in late May — early June annually since 2010, and in the Fall its shorter version — under the name of Beat Weekend — travels to fifteen major cities across Russia and CIS. The next edition of the Beat Film Festival will take place on May 31 — June 9, 2019.
Founded in 2010 as a music documentary showcase, Beat has grown into a vibrant city-scale film event with over 30,000 admissions that presents major international documentary titles with a strong audience appeal, more experimental works playing with art and hybrid forms, and brand new voices from young Russian cinema with a potential to be heard around the globe. Beat Film Festival celebrates works of emerging filmmakers as well as films of prominent directors and helps make them known to the Russian audience.
The festival is known for its careful selection and ability to spotlight every film in the program by joining forces with media partners, cultural institutions and music promoters. Offbeat events combining film with other visual and music formats is a signature feature of the Beat Film Festival program every year. In different year the festival hosted live events
with artists like LCD Soundsystem, Placebo, Diplo in presence, extended film panels in conversation with Adam Curtis, David Carr, Grant Gee, Stephen Kijak and official collaborations with other international festivals such as SXSW, CPH:DOX, Sheffield Doc, Manchester International Festival, etc.
